This was my biggest extended family session yet! As you can imagine, corralling 21 relatives is no small feet. This beautiful family came together to celebrate their parents 50th wedding anniversary which happened to also be dad's 79th birthday.
When I was told we had one chance to capture the group together and it had to be at 11:30am in the heat with limited shade, I knew I'd be in for a challenge! We decided on The Botanical Gardens here on The Sunshine Coast as the trees were bound to give us some shadows to work with. It was important to me to find somewhere which didn't require too much walking between locations so the group could keep comfortable and not too sweaty!
I visited the venue beforehand to scout the best spots and found a few patches of dappled shade and some large rocks that made perfect seats for anyone who needed a rest. That planning made all the difference. It kept the group together, cut down on walking and meant we could move quickly between flattering locations and without overheating. I have been known to get pretty red in the face myself on these midday shoots!
My favourite moments are always the in-between moments. When capturing a large group like this, I know it's important to deliver a mix of point-and-shoot photos as well as some fun, spontaneous ones.
